Residents of Lincoln Park are served by the Chicago Public Library system, the world's largest public library with a collection of more than 2 million books. The Lincoln Park library was first located in a storefront at 744 W. Fullerton. It opened in 1942, and offered story hours that became so popular that by 1945, the neighborhood was asking for a larger facility. The Lincoln Park library is currently located at 1150 W Fullerton and was opened in 1995. The Lincoln Park library offers books, periodicals, newspapers, computers and Internet access, science materials, music, videos, business resources, educational research and extensive cultural and community programs for children and adults.
